Phishing Scams
We've been made aware that an email is circulating again, falsely claiming to have our mailing list for sale.
To be clear: The Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce does not sell or distribute our contact lists.
If you receive an email from someone claiming to have access to this information:
- Do not reply, click any links, or interact with the email in any way. Doing so confirms to scammers that your email is active.
- Mark it as spam in your email system (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) and delete it.
- Know that these individuals are not affiliated with us in any way and do not have access to our members' private information.
- Rest assured, your information is secure. Our systems have not been compromised.
The Halton Hills Chamber takes your privacy seriously and complies with all Canadian privacy laws. If you have any concerns, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to discuss them with you.
How Did They Get Your Email?
Scammers use automated programs, called internet crawlers or spam bots, to scan the web for publicly available email addresses. They compile fake contact lists and use geographic targeting to make their scams look more credible.
Why Do They Target the Halton Hills Chamber?
Simply put, our Chamber is well respected. These scammers exploit our trusted reputation, hoping you’ll engage with them.
To be clear: We will NEVER share or sell our members’ information. Your privacy and security are our top priorities.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact our office.
